This portfolio and our practicum trip would not have been possible without the dedicated guidance of Dr. Tran Thi Minh Phuong. Having studied courses such as Advanced Teaching Methodology (ATM) and Technology-Assisted Language Learning (TALL) with her, we greatly valued her professionalism, commitment, and supportive approach to teaching. It was a great honor to have her as our supervisor for this practicum.

Drawing directly on what she taught us in ATM and TALL, her guidance helped us plan effective lessons, address learners’ needs, and design appropriate materials for the context of naval military cadets. Her emphasis on pedagogical planning, activity design, and the meaningful use of technology was clearly reflected in the way we developed lesson ideas, organized activities, and created visually effective slides for the micro-teaching session.

Throughout the trip, she provided patient guidance and wholehearted support. Her encouragement and trust fostered both our learning and our growth as future educators. Beyond her role as an instructor, she was a supportive companion who offered reassurance in moments of doubt and acknowledged our achievements.

We sincerely express our gratitude for her invaluable academic and professional mentorship, as well as for the positive environment she created, which greatly contributed to the success of our practicum.

We are Group 3B, consisting of five MA TESOL postgraduate students, one from class 2024A and four from class 2024B. We are delighted to present our practicum experience in Nha Trang, which was both academically enriching and personally meaningful. The trip fostered stronger teamwork and closer relationships, bringing us closer together and allowing us to understand one another more deeply after nearly two years studying in the same program.

During the practicum at the Naval Academy, we collaboratively took part in a wide range of professional activities, including classroom observation, a workshop, and micro-teaching. Each member contributed individual strengths and skills toward the common goal of developing professional competence and gaining practical experience in English language teaching.

My name is Nguyen Thi My Trinh. I graduated from Binh Duong University with a major in English Linguistics. For over 12 years, I have served as a high school English teacher.

While this time has allowed me to build a stable and reliable classroom, I eventually felt the need to step out of my comfort zone. More importantly, I realized that to truly support my students’ progress, I needed to grow as well.  That’s why I chose to continue my career journey as a Master’s student at USSH.

Admittedly,  this Master’s journey certainly brings its share of pressure and challenges, but it is also filled with joy and meaningful experiences. I am confident that this course is not just a milestone, but the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning for me.

My name is Phan Thi Thu Thuy, and I graduated with a degree in English Linguistics from Saigon University. During my seven years of teaching, I have had the opportunity to work with students of different levels and age groups, from preschoolers to adult learners. Each learner presents different patterns and challenges, which motivates me to continuously broaden my pedagogical knowledge to enhance classroom effectiveness.

To strengthen my teaching foundation, I obtained TESOL certification, which provided me with fundamental concepts and techniques in language teaching. However, I have always wanted to deepen my understanding of TESOL theory to address classroom issues more effectively at their root.  Therefore, I enrolled in the MA TESOL program at USSH, where I can learn from experienced teaching professionals and share insights with my peers. During the course, I have developed an interest in material development and the application of technology in teaching, and I hope to further develop these areas in my future practice.
